Discover the rise, fall, and future of a Chicago landmark at this exclusive members-only event. Join the authors of “The Uptown: Chicago's Endangered Movie Palace” for a panel discussion exploring the century-old theater's remarkable story— from its dazzling grand opening and heyday as an entertainment landmark to its decades-long closure and the ongoing efforts to bring it back to life. The conversation will be moderated by Chicago History Museum's Paul Durica, Director of Exhibitions. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 18.
Guests will also have the opportunity to explore the museum's Uptown Theater pop-up display within Crossroads before the discussion, highlighting the theater's place in Chicago's cultural history.
Historical Alliance members are invited to arrive at 5:00 p.m. for an exclusive viewing of archival materials from the Chicago History Museum's collection related to the Uptown Theater, available only before the program.
